It is with great excitement that we share with you the plans for Muriel in her new home and for the City of Atchison, Kansas when she arrives! Muriel will arrive in Atchison, KS the second week of August and plans are underway to give her a new home in a brand new Amelia Earhart Museum in the coming years.
Amelia Earhart’s legacy is alive and well in her birthplace of Atchison, Kansas. An annual festival honors the namesake and her childhood home has served as a museum for admirers from around the world to visit and learn about her life and legacy. During the summer of 2016, her story will be told with renewed excitement as the world’s last remaining 1935 Lockheed Electra L-10E, Muriel, makes her journey to Atchison to find a new home. In response to Muriel’s adoption by the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation, the organization will seek to raise funds to build a new museum to honor the historic plane and Amelia Earhart. In conjunction with the creation of a new Amelia Earhart Museum, the organization also will seek to raise funds to produce and transport the approved Kansas statue of Amelia Earhart to the United States Capitol to make her new home with Dwight D Eisenhower in National Statuary Hall, replacing the current Kansas statue of John James Ingalls.
BIG plans are in the works, and we invite each and every one of you to be a part of this history making endeavor. Stay tuned on this website as we connect you to the unfolding story.
